Day 1 : Arrival at Chennai Airport
You will be given a warm welcome by MJ Tours & Travel crew at Chennai airport. Chennai is the bustling capital of Tamil Nadu and home to the second longest beach in India, 'Marina Beach'. From here we begin our journey towards Kanchipuram, 65 km south west of Chennai. This charming small town is also known as 'silk city' as the main profession of the towns people is weaving beautiful silk sarees. Here you will stay in one of the silk city's most delightful hotels.
Day 2 : Kanchipuram
Kanchipuram is also known as the Thousand Temple City and in the morning you will have the opportunity to see the region's famous Chola architecture at the Ekambareswarar and Varadharaja Perumal Temples. In the evening, we will visit Kamakshi Amman temple, dedicated to Parvathi and get back to the hotel for a pleasant stay.
Day 3 : Mahabalipuram
After breakfast we travel 70 km south through the farming fields to the coast and Mahabalipuram. Mahabalipuram is home to world-famous monuments and sculptures from the Pallava Dynasty. On the journey there will also be an opportunity to spend time in the Thirukazhukumdram Eagle Temple. In the evening, we will visit the most of the fabulous temples and sculptures in this region, which has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hightlights include The Shore Temple, known to be the most anciest temple in South India and dedicated to Lord Shiva; the Pancha Pandava Rathas, temples in the form of chariots; Arjuna's Penance, a giant open air relief; Krishna Mandapam, the cave sanctuary; and the giant natural rock know as Krishna's Butter Ball. We stay through for a night here.
Day 4 : Mahabalipuram area
A chance to witness the spectacular sunrise in Tiger's Cave, and spend some quiet time on the Beach. 5 km from Mahabalipyuam, Tiger's Cave is an unforgettable beach destination. Laze around on the shores of this beautiful clean beach and enjoy the views of the stunning Carved Tiger Statues and a calming Shiva God Temple. Those visitng Mahabalipuram between 24th of December to 25th January will have the chance to be a part of the Indian Cultural Dance Festival which runs from 18.00 Hours to 20.00 Hours everyday.
Day 5 : Mahabalipuram area
A wonderful local experience as MJ Tours & Travel organizes a special Fishing Tour and the catch of the day will be cooked for you at a local home. From Mahabalipuram you will take a 2 hour senic journey along the coast to Pondicherry where you will stay in a comfortable beach front hotel. Pondicherry is 100 km far from Mahabalipuram.
Day 6 : Auroville
In the morning we will visit the Auroville, an experimental township founded by Mira Alfassa – 'The sweet Mother' - in 1968. The township's temple, the Matrimandir is an ideal place for practising Yoga and Meditation. Marvel at the extraordinary architecture or take a trip to Auroville Beach for a dip in the sea. On the return journey, a stop at the Aurobindo Ashram allows you to take a few minutes to meditate near Sweet Mother's Tomb.
Day 7 : Pondicherry
A special and a unique experience - MJ Tours & Travel organizes a cooking lesson, giving you the chance to go back home with some authentic South Indian recipes as well as meet some of the local people. This experience includes a tour through Pondicherry's Botanical Gardens to see the wonderful local flora and fauna. After this you will slowly start your journey towards the powerful Chidambaram Nataraja Temple, 60 km far from Pondicherry. Here you will participate in Hindu rituals known as Poojas, it will be an amazing experience. From here, you will journey to Tanjore, the ancient capital of the Chola dynasty and home to the celebrated Brihadeeswarar Temple.
Day 8 : Tanjore
Another memorable day as you visit the Sri Brihadeeswarar Temple and we will privileged to be part of Nandi Paalabishegam during the Poojas. Tanjore also has many farming fields, giving you a true South Indian experience. In the afternoon you will travel to Trichy, 60 km from Tanjore, where you will stay there for a night.
Day 9 : Srirangam / Trichy
An early start to visit Srirangam, a deeply spiritual temple, dedicated to Ranganatha, a reclining form of Lord Vishnu. At the nearby Cauvery River you can experience the rituals performed by Brahmins. Finally a visit to the Uchi Pillaiyaar Temple, perched atop the rock, dedicated to Lord Ganesh, and then journey to Madurai,130 km north of Trichy where you will stay overnight.
Day 10 : Madurai
A visit to one of the top 30 nominees of the "new seven wonders of the world" that is the Meenakshi Amman Temple. Hosting an estimated 33,000 sculptures, this is a truly extraordinary site. We will then visit the Golden Lotus Tank known as 'Pottramarai Kulam' where the famous Tamil poet Nakkeerar was found after Lord Shiva burnt him with his third eye. The Thousand Pillared Hall is another place to visit. Each pillar portraits the Dravidian deities, just outside this hall, towards the west, are the Musical Pillars. Each pillar, when struck, produces a different musical note. We get back our hotel for a night stay.
Day 11 : Munnar
Travel 155 km to Munnar in Kerela. Munnar refers to the confluence of Kundaly, Madurapuzha and Nallathanni rivers. Munnar is a hill station situated 1600 meters above the sea level. In the afternoon you will visit the Tata Tea Factory and in the evening, the Davikulam and Mattupetty dam. You will overnight in a charming hotel.
Day 12 : Alleppey
Onward to Alappuzha on the Keralan coast. Here you will enjoy the relaxing and rejuventaing experience of staying in a house boat as you cruise on Vembanad Lake. Kerala is a God's Own Country and Alleppey Beach is a must visit beach of Kerala. There has been a carnival celebrated between 25th December to 31st December and you can go for a Camel Ride during the Carnival. You will sleep in the houseboat for a night.
Day 13 : Kochi (Fort Kochi)
A stop off in the most happening Kochi (Cochin). Kochi is the main Harbour in Kerala boasts historical gems such as Fort Kochi, Chinese Fishing Nets and Vasco Da Gama Square. In the evening, you will be received by MJ Tours & Travel to a Kathakali Dance Show and the Makeup session prior to the Kathakali Dance show is a must-see one. The Dance show starts at 17.30 Hours and ends at 19.30 Hours.
Day 14 : Cherai beach
Cochin is well connected to beaches such as Cherai Beach, Marari Beach and Fort Kochi Beach. A slow drive around Cochin in the evening takes in St. Francis Church near Vasco Da Gama Square, the 8th Century Old Dutch Palace and the Jewish Synagogue and old Jewish town. If you are still feeling lively, you have option of being a spectator for the Gorgeous Kerala Dance and that lasts for an hour from 18.30 hours.
Day 15 : Bangalore
An early start to catch the morning train to the IT city, Bangalore. It's a 6 hour journey (370 km) and after checking into your delightful hotel, you can stroll around the beautiful Brindavan Gardens in the evening. The climate – around 30 degrees celsius – is considered ideal for travellers.
Day 16 : Mysore
We travel through the busy road and head towards Mysore, 145 km far from Bangalore. Described as the City of Palaces, Mysore is a must-visit. The palace within the fort - Mysore Palace - was built in 1912 and is second only to the Taj Mahal as the most famous attraction in India. During the Dasara Festival in September or October this extraordinary building is illuminated with more than 96,000 lights.
Day 17 : Madikeri
Your journey will continue 115 km to the lush forests of Misty Coorg. On our way to Coorg, we will visit the Tibetan monastery with its golden temple, located in the village of Bylakuppe which, housing more than 7000 students and monks is the second largest Tibetan settlement outside Tibet. A visit to the Raja's Seat seasonal garden of flowers on top of the Stuart Hill will give a beautiful panoramic view of the valley. We stay overnight in Madikeri amidst of nature and surrounded by the rainforest.
Day 18 : Madikeri area
The delightful Coffee and Cardamom walk on the Tadiandamol, the highest peak in Coorg. The day is finished with a visit to the Abbey Falls. The waterfall is located between private coffee plantations with stocky coffee bushes and spice estates with trees entwined with pepper vines. We stay in Madikeri for one more night
Day 19 : Belur / Halebid / Hassan
Another beautiful destination, Hassan, is 125 km far from Madikeri. Hassan is a tiny little town surrounded by Temples with a pleasant climate. On the way there's a chance to visit Chennakesava Temple and Hoysaleswara Temple, dedicated respectively to Vishnu and Shiva. You will catch a late evening train to Hampi and experience the delights of an overnight Indian train journey.
Day 20 : Hampi
You will awake in Hampi, a small, religious village in Karnataka that attracts many visitors on account of its many beautiful monuments. A UNESCO recognised world heritage site, you will have the chance to visit the famous Achyutaraya Temple, Chandramauleshwar Temple and Malyavanta Raghunatha Swamy Temple.
Day 21 : Hampi area
A visit to the Hazara Rama Temple which describes the epic of Ramayana (one of the two great epics of Hinduism) through its 1000 carvings. There will also be chances to see the Krishna Temple and Vittala temples before heading back to the hotel for the night.
Day 22 : Badami
Travel to Badami, another temple town 150 km from Hampi. Badami was the regal capital of Badami Chalukyas from 540 to 757 AD and it holds many beautiful temples. We will visit Bhutanatha Group of Temples and stay in the hotel for a night.
Day 23 : Badami
Enjoy the temperate climate and visit the other two marvellously built temples known as Mallikarjuna Group of Temples and a small shrine dedicated to Vishnu. At noon, we will start our journey towards Gokarna which is 270 km from Badami.
Day 24 : Gokarna
Gokarna is another beautiful, clean beach destination surrounded by stunning temples. It was known as one of the seven important Hindu pilgrimage centres in India. Choose between Gokarna Beach (India Beach), Main beach, Kudle Beach, Om Beach, Half Moon Beach, Paradise Beach and Nirvana Beach. It's really worth spending some quality time on the beaches and relax in the evening.
Day 25 : Gokarna
We will be privileged to visit the lord Shiva Temple namely Mahabaleshwara Temple and participate in the Poojas and rituals here. We will pack our bags one more time and leave to Goa for a night stay. Goa is 145 km far from Gokarna and we will reach there with in 4 hours.
Day 26 : Goa beaches
Fabulous sightseeing in North Goa. You will be visiting some of the famous beaches like Anjuna Beach, Calangute Beach, Baga Beach, Vagator Beach, Sinquerim Beach, Candolim Beach, Morjim Beach, Arambol Beach or Harmal Beach and Miramar Beach. There's also time for a visit to two famous churches - Se Cathedral and Basilica of Bom Jesus.
Day 27 : Palolem
Museums visits and the beaches like Palolem Beach, Agonda Beach, Varca Beach, Cavelossim Beach, Mobor Beach, Betalbatim Beach, Colva Beach, Majorda Beach, Bogmalo Beach and Benaulim Beach.
Day 28 : Palolem area
Hire a moped and visit the nearby churches and some lesser known beaches; what better way to relax? In Goa, it is always fun to be on the beaches but places like Panjim, Madgoan and Dona Paula beaches are must visit tourist spots too.
Day 29 : Palolem area
A final and relaxed day on the beaches. MJ Tours & Travel will also organize a short boat trip for a final exhilarating experience. In the evening we will guide you to the shops where you can purchase souvenirs and gifts for your dear and near ones.
Day 30 : Transfer to Goa Airport (Dabolim)
We will lead you to the Airport for a happy journey.
