16 Nights

Day 1 : Arrival at Trivandrum Airport
You will receive a warm welcome by MJ Tours & Travel at Trivandrum airport and from there be directly taken to Kovalam for a nights stay. Trivandrum is also known as 'Thiruvananthapuram' and it is the capital of Kerala. It has many attractive destinations such as beautiful beaches, zoos, museums and temples. Thiruvanathapuram which means 'The City of Lord Ananta' received this name from the deity of the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple which is located at the centre of the city.

Day 2 : Kovalam
Lets get up and travel towards Kovalams famous sandy beaches. Kovalam is a beach town located near Trivandrum. In Kerala there are plenty of beaches with panoramic views and stunning scenery, but Kovalam Lighthouse Beach will be topping the list. It is a very clean beach and is well maintained, it is also ideal for those who wish to sunbathe. There is a variety of boat-rides available on Lighthouse beach which brings more excitement for some tourists. There are two more beaches which we can head towards if you wish to see a little more of Kerala. Hawah and Samudra beaches are adjacent to each other and they are preferred by the tourists who want peaceful holidays and to sunbathe in peace with no hassle. Water sports on these two beaches are highly recommended especially during sunrise as it would be a great experience.

Day 3 : Trivandrum
Let us visit one of the most popular temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Vishnu has 108 incarnations and for each there is a temple. 'Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple' located in Trivandrum is one of the 108 temples and is considered to be the richest temple in the world. The entry to this particular temple is restricted to only those who profess the Hindu faith. Devotees have to strictly follow the dress code, which means the men have to remove their shirts and they have to be wearing dhoties. The Thiruvananthapuram Zoo is a short drive away, not so far. At this Zoo, you are able to see animals such as Tigers, Lions, Crocodiles, Bears and Monkeys etc.

Day 4 : Varkala
Now we travel to the famous Varkala beach which is known for the Cliff views. Varkala is 50 km far from Trivandrum and it is the only destination in Southern Kerala where cliffs are found adjacent to the Arabian Sea. You can see numerous water Sports and Ayurveda centres with Spa facilities available on this cliff. Varkala is also famous for its 2000 year old 'Janardana Swamy Temple'. Vaishnavism is one the major branches of Hinduism. It is focused on the veneration of Supreme Lord Vishnu. Varkala is also known as the place in the south where cremations are performed. Dakshin Kashi in Malayalam, the equivalent of Banaras in the North. The temple is located close to the Papanasam Beach which is considered to have holy water that washes sins away. There is a wonderful Ayurveda centre here too. Let us move around Janardana Swamy Temple and spend some quiet time on the beach with the amazing cliff views watching the sunset, we will then stay in Varkala for a night. In the evening, we are invited by a local family for dinner.

Day 5 : Alleppey
Travel to Alleppey. Kerala has many beautiful destinations but Alleppey offers a very unique backwater and houseboat experience. Alleppey is considered to be the oldest planned town in this region and it is a town with picturestic canals, backwaters, beaches and lagoons. It was described as the 'Venice of the East' by Lord Curzon. Alleppey is reachable in two hours from Varkala and once arrived we will move onto houseboats for an exciting and unforgettable experience. We will cruise through Vembanad lake which is the longest lake in India and has some of the most amazing scenery around that must be seen by the naked eye.

Day 6 : Alleppey
Today we will move to Alleppey Beach and check-in at a nice, decent hotel near to the beach. We will visit Sri Krishna Temple and Mamarasala Temple. By 3:30 p.m. we can go for a canoe boat ride and we will be delighted to be there during the sunset. If you wish to participate in the carnival on Alleppey beach you are welcomed to go for a camel ride here on the beach. There will be many activities where you can see thousands of local people participating in them, great atmosphere and a good time to take photos of true India. Alleppey Beach Carnival starts on 24th December and ends on 31st of January every year.

Day 7 : Marari
Next we will travel to Marari Beach located in Mararikulam which is a sleepy little village, ideal for vacations. Marari Beach is very quiet and clean. There are home stays which will be a very good experience for holiday makers to experience. In Kerala, although there are quite a few beaches, Marari Beach is a good fit for spending some quiet time alone in peace and is less crowded than other beaches.

Day 8 : Marari
Here we will extend our stay for one more day where we can spend some time on the beach. Marari Beach offers a serene view and ideal beach for sun bathing. In the afternoon we will go for a boat ride where you can go fishing if you wish, it is a good experience to try as you will be able to understand the real fishing experience. Patience could be needed.

Day 9 : Thekkady
Now it is time to move to Thekkady. Thekkady is 135 km far from Mararikulam. It is famous for the dense evergreen, semi-evergreen, moist deciduous forests and savanna grass lands. It is home to herds of elephants, sambar, tigers and other wild animals. We will reach Thekkady in the evening and get ready for an exciting Kerala Dance Show, the duration of the show is two hours. The dance style is an evolved form of the ancient Kathakali dance. We will stay through the night in a hotel which is located in the middle of the Jungle.

Day 10 : Periyar
We could be in for another adventurous experience and we will go for a boat trip in Periyar lake. The first boat ride starts at 6:30 a.m., this is a perfect time to go as you could see elephants, gaur, lion-tailed Macaques and Nilgiri Langurs.

Day 11 : Munnar
We are sure that we had enough activities yesterday under the hot sun but now it is time to move towards Munnar for pleasant weather. Before we can check in. It would be nice to visit Tata Tea Museum that will explain about the process of Tea making. Munnar is 85 km far from Thekkady and we will reach in 3 hours, we will rest for a night in a hotel which is set in a beautiful location.

Day 12 : Munnar area
Early rising and head towards Devikulam for a trekking experience. The trek will start at the Tata beverages packing unit and will lead to a small bridge from where you will enjoy the beautiful view of the Pallivasal waterfalls. From here we will travel to Mattupatti dam and go for a boat ride on the backwaters. On our return you might want to get wet in the waterfalls before going back to the hotel for lunch.

Day 13 : Munnar area
Allow for some relaxing time in the morning and then travel towards Fort Kochi in the evening. Get prepared to be a spectator in a Kerala Kathakali Dance Show organized by MJ Tours & Travel which starts at 18.30 hours. Kathakali translates literally as 'story play' and was introduced during the 17th century. It portrays stories derived from the epics of Mahabharata and Ramayana. Cochin is 130 km far from Munnar and it is also known as Kochi. It is the major port city of Kerala and it was ruled by Portugueses from 1503. Cochin was one of the first for the European colonies in Colonial India and it ranked first in hosting the maximum number of tourists in Kerala. We will make our stay in Fort Kochi which is one of the most happening destinations in South India.

Day 14 : Fort Cochin (Cochin)
Have a relaxed walk around Fort Kochi Beach and possibly see some huge ships moving in and around the Fort. Then we will move towards the Chinese Fishing Nets. It was earlier thought that the nets might have been introduced by Chinese explorer Zheng, but recent research shows that these were introduced by Portuguese Casado from Macau. St Francis Church in Fort Kochi originally built in 1503 is the oldest European Church in India. Vasco da Gama died in Kochi in 1524 when he was on his 3rd visit to India and his body was originally buried in this church but after 14 years his remains were removed and sent to Lisbon. After lunch we can visit the Dutch Palace and the Jewish Synagogue. Please note that the Jewish Synagogue will be closed between 12.00 hours to 15.00 hours. Dutch Palace was built and gifted by the Portuguese as a present to the Raja of Cochin around 1555. It is showing the Hindu Temple art, portraits and exhibits of Rajas in Kochi. The Paradesi Jewish Synagogue is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. It was constructed in 1568. There are said to be seven synagogues earlier but this is the only one that remains in use. Paradesi means refugees or immigrates. We go back to hotel for another nights stay.

Day 15 : Cherai beach
It is time to move to another beach destination called Cherai Beach. It is 30 km far from Kochi and it is another beautiful beach which gives privacy for the travellers. In the evening it is recommended to experience a quality massage from a Ayurveda Centre.

Day 16 : Kochi area
This is the day for last minute shopping and visiting some antiques stalls. Please note that you may need plenty of patience and to be good at negotiation. We will spend the rest of the day at the beach.

Day 17 : Transfer to Kochi Airport
Wake up, have breakfast and get ready to travel to Cochin Airport. With happy memories from your trip to South India.
